Being 'Beautiful' in Korea

Being beautiful in Korea means you must have pearl white skin with long black hair, (not too skinny) but somewhat petite body type, double eyelids, and natural clear skin.

Being born in Jeju island in South Korea, I was never considered 'beautiful'. I have brown hair with tan skin with no double eyelids.

Of course.. because my hair is naturally highlighted by the sun, and so was my skin.
Now I live in America, where I fit just a little bit better

I always wondered how people could achieve the white skin and black hair.
And found out the secret when I visited Korea 2 years ago..

In Korea.. and any other Asian countries, going to school is basically what they live for.
So when my friend told me that she wanted to be as tan as I was, I was shocked.. why would ANYONE in Korea want to be like me?

The thing was, they were like vampires. They have to stay inside and study, and when they have to go to an extra class, they have to take the bus, which gives them only seconds of facing sunlight.

So that is the secret.. no lotion or makeup can make that perfect white skin..

Beauty also comes from the inside...
you must bow to elders
and obey them

eat well
and a lot

smile often
almost always

...and those are the secrets to beauty in korea

thankyou
